Obituary of Antonio Viejo

Antonio Viejo, 92, a business owner from Philadelphia who immigrated to the United States from Cuba in 1962, died of natural causes on February 21 at his home.

Antonio was born and raised in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba. He was one of ten brothers and sisters. Antonio married Berta Viejo, the love of his life, in 1951 and they had two children. Antonio and his family lived a wealthy lifestyle in Cuba. In 1961, the Cuban Revolution conducted by Fidel Castro, caused Antonio Viejo to journey his family to the United States of America with no possessions.

The family lived in the basement of a private home until they were able to get on their feet. Antonio Viejo wanted a better life for his family and there was nothing that was going to stop him from doing just that.

Antonio moved his family to Philadelphia in 1969. He started his own business: Antonio Viejo General Merchandise, a business where he sold general merchandise to Hispanic grocery stores. After years of hard work, Antonio's dream became reality. He provided a wonderful life for his family.

After retiring, Antonio together with his wife, used his business skills to help his granddaughter start a dance studio in Bensalem: Dance With Celeste, a dance studio where hundreds of children have learned the art of dance over the past decade and a half. Although Antonio loved Cuba, he also loved America equally. Antonio Viejo's story is one of courage and love.

Antonio Viejo is survived by his son Tony (Nancy) Viejo, his daughter Betty (John) Farris, four grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, one sister, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering on Saturday, Feb., 28th, beginning at 11am at the Chapel of Memories, Sunset Memorial Park, 333 County Line Rd., Feasterville, PA 19116, followed by his Memorial Service at 12.
