Obituary

Armando Rodriguez was born on April 23, 1927 in Naguabo, Puerto Rico to Basiliso and Gregoria Rodriguez. Being the 9th of 10 children, he developed quiet strength and determination that would carry him throughout his life.

In 1949, he decided to leave his beloved island to seek a better life in the United States. Arriving with little money, but carrying the determination to succeed, he forged his path with grit, grace and resolve.

In 1952, he married the love of his life, Florentina (aka Lolin, nee: Reyes). A true partnership, they spent 68 years together, until Florentina's passing in 2020.

In his later years, he spent his time woodworking, gardening, and watching the Phillies. He especially loved making dollhouses for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and building replicas of ships. His greatest joy came from seeing and spending time with his growing family.

His love for his beloved island of Puerto Rico never diminished. Luckily he was able to return several times in his later years. Holidays will never be the same without his famous empanadas, pasteles and alcapurrias.

He is deeply missed by his three daughters, Melba Cherico (late John Cherico and Late Bill Kane), Amalis Rodriguez and Dilia Lorenz (Bill); his seven grandchildren, Amanda Tagmire (Fran), Laura Popovich (Nick), Sarah Hsii (Jeff), Stefanie Stone (Bryan), Adam Lorenz, David Lorenz (Samantha), Samantha Carfagno (Nick), and 13 great-grandchildren, Madison Popovich, Noah Popovich, Anna Popovich, Jack Tagmire, Charlie Tagmire, Jay Hsii, Aria Hsii, Isabella Stone, Emma Stone, Kyler Lorenz, Parker Lorenz, Austin Lorenz, and Autumn Lorenz.

He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Relatives and friends will be invited to gather at St. Christopher's Roman Catholic Church, 13301 Proctor Rd. Philadelphia, PA 19116 on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 from 10 AM to 11 AM. Mass will be held at 11 AM with Father Philip Bochanski officiating.

Armando will be reunited with Florentina following Mass at Sunset Memorial Park.
