Obituary of Arnold West
Arnold (Sam) S. West of Holland passed on Monday, March 19, 2012. He was 90. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Beverly Lehman West.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Arnold and Mary (Sumner) West and brother of the late Elizabeth W. Jackson. He was a longtime resident of Huntingdon Valley and recently a resident of Twining Village.
Arnold had a long and illustrious career with the former Rohm and Haas Company from 1946 to 1987. He was a research engineer, supervisor, and manager and, later in his career, a specialist in government and regulatory affairs. After retirement, he was principal owner of a consulting business, A.S. West Associates. He was active in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, serving as treasurer from 1973-1975, vice president in 1976, and president in 1977. As president, he travelled throughout the world, including Poland, London and Mexico City. He served on the board of directors of the Chemical Heritage Foundation and was president of United Engineering Trustees. He served his community as secreatry of the Lower Moreland Township Authority.
Arnold enjoyed bowling, stamp collecting and vacationing in Cape May, New Jersey every summer. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara W. Yount and her husband, Michael and his son, Richard W. West and his wife, Maryanne. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael C. Yount and his wife, Melissa and Richard T. and Matthew P. West, and his great granddaughter, Olivia L. Yount.
