Barbara B. Thumler, age 80, survived by her life partner, Lisa Newsham, son and daughter - in - law, Sam and Jacque, 2 grandchildren, Amelia and Spencer, and her dog, Chance. She was preceded in death by her brother, Albert A. Thumler, Jr.( Dotti ). She is also survived by her sister - in - law, Randye Giammarco ( Tony ), her nieces(, especially Jennifer Minehan ), nephews ( especially Carl Huber), and best friend since the 10th grade, Dorothy Walton ( Carol Griffin ). A very special thank you to her loyal caregiver and friend, Irina Nayda, who helped us keep her at home for four years. Bayada Home Health Care played a significant role in her care headed by Carolyn, Her wonderful nurse. A thank you to Gwynedd Square Nursing facility for their help the last two weeks. Barb worked for the School District of Philadelphia for 43 1/2 years. She retired in 2001. She was the first female athletic director and department head in the District. She was also the Assistant Director of Health and Physical Education. Barb worked at Ne, M.L. King and George Washington High Schools. She was also inducted in the All Sports Hall of Fame. Barb was a true trailblazer and way ahead of her time !. Barb also worked for Lincoln Investment in Jenkintown for 20 + years as a Financial Advisor. She will be greatly missed by her family, and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, October 6, 2016, 10 at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Rd.
