Bernie Geiger passed away peacefully on March 17,2023 at the age of 85 with his five sons by his side. He was a beloved husband, father, pop pop, brother and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy and his parents Otto and Bertha Geiger. He is survived by his five sons, Bob (Sue), Bernie (Cathy), Steve (Merle), Brian (Cathy), Glenn, fifteen Grandchildren and six Great-Grandchildren.
Bernie was born in Philadelphia in 1937 into a bakery family. He served our country for two years in the Korean War and came home in 1958. One year later, he married the love of his life, Nancy. He started Geiger's Bakery of Mayfair on Frankford Avenue in 1977. Together, with his wife Nancy and five sons, Geiger's Bakery of Mayfair became a Philadelphia institution. When the door closed on Valentine's Day 2016, thousands of customers came into the store to get their final piece of Geiger's pound cake and to express their gratitude for being part of their family celebrations for 40 years.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 25th at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Abramson Cancer Center, Penn Medicine
