Obituary

Bette Lewis Tokar, Ed.D, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2020.

Born to Howard (Bill) Lewis and Irma Pixton Lewis in Philadelphia in 1935, Bette was beloved by her family, friends, colleagues and her many, many students. She lived in Feasterville for over 50 years, moving to Juniper Village in Bensalem in 2010.

She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jack Tokar (2016) and daughter Terri (2019). She is survived by her daughter Bonnie and husband Bill Zimmermann, sons Michael Tokar and his wife Michele and Robert Tokar and his partner, Kevin Carr, along with grandchildren Eric Zimmermann, Rebecca Tokar Mockaitis (Andrew), Julia Tokar and Daniel Tokar, great-granddaughter Emilia Mockaitis, as well as close friends, Dolores Pfizenmaier and Holly Kehler.

Dr. Tokar was a lifelong learner and Professor Emeritus of the College of Business Administration at Holy Family University, teaching for 35 years. Her many achievements included receiving the Ray L. Taylor Memorial Award in 2003 for her animated educational economics lessons and the prestigious Lindbach Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2005.

She was an inspiring role model to her family and friends as she achieved her goals of earning a Masters Degree ('73) and Doctorate ('93) from Temple University while raising four children and working full time. A voracious reader and an attentive listener, her intelligence made her an excellent conversationalist as well as a dominating force in trivia games. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, her love of traveling, all things purple and her positive affection toward her family, friends, colleagues and students.

A virtual funeral service is planned for July 16, 2020 at 11 am via Zoom, with a celebration of her life once COVID risks are reduced. Anyone requesting to attend the live version may email Bonnie Zimmermann at bzmann42@gmail.com .
