Obituary of Carol Martin

Carol Marie Martin (nee Ribeiro) of Langhorne, age 59, passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on Sunday, August 23, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Carol handled her illness with grace, courage and dignity and left this world a better place for those who knew and loved her. She was the beloved wife of William M. Martin.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother Josephine Mary Ribeiro and her stepson, Michael S. Martin.

Born in Camden, NJ, Carol was raised in Pennsauken, NJ and lived most of her life in the Camden County Area before moving to Bucks County in the late 1980's.

Carol was a graduate of Camden Catholic High School and Mt. Aloysius Jr College, Kresson, PA. She was also a graduate of Rutgers University Camden, NJ with a BS Degree in Business Management. Shortly after college she started her business career in the oil industry with Texaco Inc. Carol served in various sales and marketing positions with Texaco until she was named Public and Government Affairs Coordinator for Texaco's Northeast Region. In 1987 she joined Getty Petroleum as a wholesale marketing manager. In 1991 Carol decided to change careers and since she had traveled extensively before and during her career chose the travel industry. She became a travel consultant with Will Travel, Fortino Travel and later joined Yardley Travel where she finally retired.

Carol enjoyed shopping, her flower gardens, sports, music, reading and traveling. Who would have believed, that she would become an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed going to many races throughout the country. She also had a great affection for the water and loved going to the Southern Coast and the Sebago Lake region of Maine, as well as the Clearwater Beach area of Florida and Aruba. Aruba became one of her greatest loves, as she spent many happy times there with family and friends that she had met there over the years.

Carol was a former member of the Yardley Country Club and a member of the Italian Heritage Club of Portland, Maine. She was a parishioner of Our lady of Grace Parish in Penndel, PA and was also a Majority Elections Inspector for one of the Districts in Middletown, PA. She was also a member or volunteered for many other social, civic and charitable organizations.

In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by her stepdaughter, Suzanne Lee Wallace, her husband Bruce, and grandson, Kevin Michael Wallace of Lockport, IL, her father, Walter G. Ribeiro of Pensauken, NJ, her sisters Jean (Dominic) Lizzio of Berlin, NJ, Joan (the late Robert) Peterson of Bountiful, Utah and her brother, Walter G. (Deborah) Ribeiro Jr of Haddon Heights, NJ, nieces, Jennifer (Justin) Ettore of Philadelphia, Camille (Adam) DiGuisseppeof Haddon Heights, NJ, nephews, Albert and Walter G. Ribeiro of New York and Jeffery and Dominic Lizzio Jr. of Berlin, NJ. She is also survived by an aunt, several uncles and loving cousins.

The family wishes to thank Dr. David Mintzer and his staff at Pennsylvania Oncology Hematology Associates at the Joan Karnel Cancer Center of Pennsylvania Hospital for the genuine concern and compassion shown to Carol and family during this trying time and to the nursing staff of Wissahickon Hospice.

Her gentleness, warmth and smile will be remembered forever by all whose lives she touched in many special ways.

Family and friends are invited to Carol's Life Celebration on Monday, August 31, 2009 from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, PA and from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Penndel, PA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery & Mausoleum, Cherry Hill, NJ
