IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David H.
Reisig
April 24, 1932 – December 1, 2021
David Reisig was the second of three boys born to Ralph and Marie Reisig. Their yard on 5th Street in the Olney section of Philadelphia backed up to train tracks, instilling in Dave a lifelong love of trains. He later shared this love of trains with his great-grandson, Justin DiMartino. Dave graduated from Lowell Elementary and Dobbins Technical High School. Starting at 16, he apprenticed with his father to learn patternmaking at Quaker City Pattern Works in North Philadelphia. He eventually bought his father's business and moved it to Feasterville in 1964. He worked in pattern making for nearly 60 years and was known as a master patternmaker, keeping in touch with many other patternmakers in the area even in retirement. He met his future wife, Nancy O'Neill, at a Catholic high school dance. After their honeymoon in Florida in 1952, he never took off more than 3 consecutive days of work for decades. He took weekends off only in the summer, when the family went down the shore and shared a Long Beach Island house with his brother, Ralph, and his family on 11th Street in Surf City, on the same street where his parents lived. In 1976, Dave and Nancy bought a house on the water in Beach Haven West, where they went every weekend from April through Thanksgiving until COVID hit. Whether in Surf City or Beach Haven West, Dave always owned a boat. He also loved model boats, as anyone visiting the house in Pine Tree Farms would notice straight away.
Dave loved trees, which made Pine Tree Farms a good place to settle. Mature forest trees were left in when the houses were built, and across the street from the house was a woods with a creek running through it. The neighborhood was an ideal place to for children to grow up. Dave served his community through being active in the American Diabetes Association, the Pine Tree Farms Association, and the Lower Southampton Planning Commission. He also served as a Republican Committeeman for over 40 years.
Supporting a wife and five children plus running a business and maintaining a boat and cars, Dave often said, "I'm floating a big ship." When they were in their forties, Dave and Nancy frequently went to the Latin Casino or Valley Forge Music Fair to see famous singers and comedians.
Whenever one of his children wanted to travel somewhere, Dave would say, "But you haven't seen all of Feasterville yet!" He saw no need for anyone to go anywhere other than Feasterville and Long Beach Island.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph P and Edward Reisig, son David, daughter Janet, Great-Granddaughter Jacqueline, and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nancy, three daughters - Nancy Power (Rockingham, NC), Rita Geddes and her husband Joe (Feasterville) and Diane ("Dee") Nelms and her husband Bob (Levittown), Daughter-in-law Mary Reisig (Richboro), son-in-law Martin Stubbs, 9 grandchildren (Gary DiMartino (Megan), Jason DiMartino, Frances Power Kurz (Eric), Nicholas Reisig (Julianna), Joseph Geddes III, Aly Geddes (Daria), Julie Geddes, Kevin Nelms, and Sam Nelms (April), and 5 great grandchildren, his beloved wiener dog Cheekey, and a flotilla of model boats. We miss him!
