Obituary

Dennis J. Havens, 72, of Huntingdon Valley passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019. Dennis was the son of Jack and Emma Havens.

He is survived by his children: Dennis Havens (Fran), Kristina Felix (Joe), Hollie Havens, Jeffery Havens; grandchildren: Matthew, Meghan, Morgan, Makayla, Jackie, Devon, Joseph, Rachel, Cameron; siblings: Michael, Jackie, Elizabeth "Joy", and Bruce. He is greatly missed by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings Billy, Jerry, and Skip.

A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, Dennis was one of eight siblings who grew up in the Kensington section. He also resided in the Olney and Summerdale neighborhoods.

Dennis was a proud member of the Philadelphia Carpenters Union, Local 1823, where he worked as a floor layer for over 35 years. He worked in many notable buildings across the city including Center City skyscrapers and homes of famous local athletes. Whenever the union called, he was there to serve. He was a master craftsman and enjoyed renovating his homes with custom flooring, trim, cabinetry, etc. He spent many hours in his basement workshop with his tools, woods, and stains.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the mountains of Pennsylvania, most especially "Rockwood" located near the Endless Mountains in Susquehanna County.

He was known for his quick humor as well as his love of Wawa coffee, Entenmann's cakes, and Chinese food. His daily wardrobe consisted of jeans, a pocket t-shirt, work boots, and a camouflage jacket, except when he was home and would change into his comfy slippers.

He is best remembered as a loyal friend and sibling and a loving father and grandfather.

~Gone Fishing~
I've finished life's chores assigned to me
So put me on a boat headed out to sea.
Please send along my fishing pole
For I've been invited to the fishing hole.
Where every day is a day to fish
To fill your heart with every wish.
Don't worry or feel sad for me
I'm fishing with the master of the sea.
We will miss each other for awhile
But you will come and bring your smile.
That won't be long you will see
Until we're together you and me.
To all of those that think of me
Be happy as I go out to sea.
If others wonder why I'm missing
Just tell 'em I've gone fishing.
