Obituary

Donald E. Doring of Virginia Beach, VA, died May 11, 2025 unexpectedly. He was 82, formerly from Schenectady, N.Y. where he was born on 17 Jan 1943. Preceded in death by parents Edward J. Doring and Edith S. Doring and Sister Carolyn Drinnon.

He was the loving husband of the late Joan (Jennings) Doring, formerly from Newton, N.J.

Retiring from the U.S. Navy with 22 years service, Aviation Machinist Mate 1st class Doring initially began his career serving at NRED 6-3 Tallahassee,  Fla., then to HS-741 NAS Jacksonville, Fla., then with orders to NAS Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, N.Y., transferring to NAS Olathe, Kan., then to NAS Atlanta, Ga., next to NARTU Norfolk, Va., and going TAD to VAW-78 while spending short periods aboard the USS Lexington CVT. His eight duty station was Nas Willow Grove, Pa., later going to NAS Patuxent River, Md. (TAD to PATRON-68). His last duty station was a return to NAS Willow Grove attached to the IMA Transit Line & Engine Build-up Shop and receiving honors for Sailor of the Month award.

Upon retirement, he drove fuel trucks for an on base Contract Refueling service, before starting a 17 year career with the Pennsylvania D O T maintenance unit in Doylestown, pa., retiring in January 2003.

He is a member of both the Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion in good standing, and Disabled American Veterans.

Donald loved animals, enjoyed fishing and gardening and cooking, calling friends and family, donating to charities, and always giving a good laugh.

He is survived by his three daughters, Teresa Rutherford (James), Tina Berner (John), Tricia Stevens (Mark). Also survived by six grandchildren, Staci and Shawn (Taylor), Troy (Kendra) and Trevor (Lauren), Hannah and Jacob and one great grandchild and two on the way.

Relative and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 12:30 PM on May 27, 2025 at Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel, Huntingdon Valley, PA where the family will meet and greet friends from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Donald's name may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
