Donald Fretz Mills peacefully passed away on January 10, 2024 at the age of 98. Don was born to Pearl (nee Fretz) and Paul Mills, raised in Doylestown, PA and graduated from Doylestown High School. After high school Don attended Penn State but was soon drafted into the Navy to serve in WWII. Upon completion of active duty, Don returned to Penn State, became a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and graduated with a degree in accounting. After graduating, Don worked for an accounting firm in Philadelphia as a CPA then later joined The Fredericks Company in Huntington Valley, Pa where he was their treasurer until his retirement in 1990.
On a blind date arranged by his fraternity brother, he was introduced to Martha Arnold who was to be his bridge partner that evening. This partnership led to a loving courtship, and they married in June 1958. They had three children, Paul, David and Mary and raised their family in Huntington Valley, PA. In 2002, Don and Martha moved to Heritage Creek Warwick, PA before moving to Ann's Choice Warminster, PA in 2010. Don and Martha loved to travel, play bridge, and enjoyed their Penn State football games for many years.
Don was a kind and gentle person who enjoyed reading, watching all Penn State sports especially football and wrestling. Most of all, he loved being with his family and enjoying his grandchildren who adored him.
Don is survived by his three children Paul and his wife Donna, David and his wife Karen, Mary Stranix and her husband Mark; his grandchildren, Dan Mills, Julia Mills and Michael Mills, Andy Mills, Mary Kate Stranix, Michelle Stranix Brady (husband AJ Brady); his brother Alan Mills and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Martha (nee Arnold) and his brother Robert.
Private military services will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
