Dorothy Krause was born September 3rd, 1925 to parents Minnie and Albert Krause.  She was the third of six children.  Her elder sisters Bertha and Helen, younger sister Mildred and two younger brothers Albert and Baby John, who unfortunately died along with Dorothy's mother in 1931.  Left without a mother, their grandmother moved into the home to help raise these small children.

As with most families born through the "Great Depression" years, things were difficult, money was scarce and Dorothy left school to find work to help support her family.  During the years of WWII Dorothy began writing to a Navy Seabee stationed in Alaska.  Letters and photos were exchanged until peace was declared and the men in uniform began returning home.  A few months later Dorothy noticed a man coming off the trolley and recognized him as the sailor she had so faithfully written to: His name was Walter F. Nowak, the man Dorothy would marry on June 19th, 1948 and spend the next 58 years as man and wife until his unfortunate death in December of 2006.

Dorothy and Walter were blessed with six children, Linda, Susan, Nancy, Patricia, Kristine and Walter.  In time they became doting grandparents to Michael, Lauren, Erin, Peter and Rebekah.  As her children grew and began their careers, Dorothy decided to volunteer at the hospital close to her home.  This began an over 20 year, every Tuesday and Thursday routine of volunteering at Frankford Torresdale Hospital pushing a cart around the patient floors selling newspaper, gum, toiletries, etc.  The free lunch offered in the cafeteria might have also been an incentive.  In addition Dorothy began work as an aid at Abraham Lincoln High school in the Mayfair Section of Philadelphia. This was a position she loved and worked at for 14 years

Never one to sit idle Dorothy, at the age of 60, along with her sister Mildred, decided to take classes in the evening to obtain their GED's since they had both never graduated from High School.

In addition to her family, Dorothy's greatest love was her church.  A small German Protestant Church in the Bridesburg Section of Philadelphia.  As young children during the depression years, if it wasn't for that church the Krause children would not have had much of a Christmas or Easter.  Dorothy never forgot that generosity and until bad health made attending impossible, she was a devoted member of her "Little Church"

Time marches on and suddenly in December of 2006 Dorothy found herself a widow upon the death of her beloved Walter.  As with all things Dorothy's age began to show and during the last few years of her life she was unable to continue her active lifestyle and was mostly bedridden.  Until the morning she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Dorothy was attended by her devoted daughter Nancy.  Mom was well loved and to quote Queen Elizabeth II "Grief is the price we pay for love" so as we say our final farewell, even through our grief we give thanks for a life well lived.

As so kindly said by her daughter in law Jennifer,  Dorothy's wish was to be remembered as a person who tried to make the best of any life situation, good or bad, and a person whose goal was to always help others.
