Obituary

Dorothy (Gentile) Scialdone-Maresca, of Somerton, PA age 95, a retired Executive Secretary, who worked for the Federal Government for more than 40 years died on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Paul's Run. Dorothy, also known as dottie, worked for the US Navy as Executive Secretary to the Commanding Officer of the Naval Aviation Supply Office (now renamed the US Naval Inventory Control Point) located in Northeast Philadelphia. During World War II, she worked for the US Signal Corps. After retirement from her full-time position, she held a part-time position as Secretary to a Vice-President at Toll Brothers, the real estate developer, which at that time was located in Huntingdon Valley, PA.

Born in Philadelphia, dottie went to the South Philadelphia High School for Girls and graduated with honors. After raising her family, she attended the Community College of Philadelphia where she earned an Associates Degree. She continued taking college courses at the Holy Family College and the Community College of Philadelphia under the Senior Citizen Program.

Dottie had a broad interest in many activities, some of which were the Philadelphia Orchestra, the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, and was an active member of the Old York Road Volunteer Committee for the Philadelphia Orchestra. She also served as Membership Secretary for the Montgomery County, Chapter #1384. Of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

Dottie was an Amateur Radio Operator (K3YPH), and was a member of the Philmont Mobile Radio Club (W3AA) which, for many years, operated from the Franklin Institute Science Museum.

Dottie was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist of Jenkintown, PA.

She is survived by her daughters, Carmela (Scialdone) Clark (William) and Loretta (Scialdone) Turner (Lawrence); her two grandchildren, William Alexander Rahn, Jr. (Kara) and Kristen (Clark) Barnes (Koelle); 5 great-grandchildren; and her late husband's children, Debbie Rubio (Roland) and Patrick Maresca (Mary). She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph A. Scialdone in 1989 after 45 years of marriage. She was later married to Thomas J. Maresca, who passed away in 2017 after 23 years of marriage.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing at Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel. 333 W. County Line Rd., Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006, on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 1-2 pm. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, 333 W. County Line Rd., Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
