March – 1945, Eleanor and her grandmother fled their home because of advance Russian troops, and she was able to escape to Schlesia by the going through Tschech Republic. When Eleanor was finally able to return to her family home in Stuttgart, Germany on May 31, 1946, she was met by an American Consulate. In order to keep her citizenship, Eleanor was issued a request to return to the United States of America on the S.S. Marine Perch with ten dollars in her pocket.
Eleanor worked for several years at the Berry Brothers Automobile Agency in Philadelphia upon her return. She married her husband, Charles L. Ehrenfeuchter, in 1950 and started a family. Eleanor was a well-educated woman, going to Montgomery Community College and earning her associate's degree in science in early childhood education.
She was a charter member of the Gloria Dei Church, founding member of the Gloria Dei Sunday School. Eleanor volunteered her time to various careers, including being an English/German translator, but she found her calling as a teacher for more than 21 years at Gloria Dei Preschool.
Eleanor has earned many awards over the years, but the one that stands out is the Terry Lycoff Award, with a letter from Congress; as well as 500 dollars for Gloria Dei Preschool for a bird sanctuary.
