Obituary

Fred W. Kuhn, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Yardley, PA, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Fred leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Barbara Kuhn; his adored daughter, Jennifer Vichko, and her husband, Jared; and his four treasured grandchildren—Avery, Madison, Brady, and Nolan—who affectionately called him "Big Poppy." He is predeceased by his parents, George and Louise, and his brother, Wolfgang.

Born in New York City, Fred spent his formative years in Trenton, NJ, where he graduated high school. He went on to serve his country as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Fred began a long career with Sears, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Tull, and the two married in 1979.

Fred retired from Sears but found joy in continuing to help others, working for many years after at The Home Depot. His passion for customer service and hands-on work was a testament to his industrious spirit.

Fred was deeply proud of his German heritage and served as the President of the Volkswagen Club of America in the early 1960s. He loved racing Volkswagens and Porsches and told many stories about driving on the Autobahn.

An active and vibrant man, Fred found immense joy in tending to his yard and gardens and following the stock market. He was a passionate Philadelphia Flyers fan, rarely missing a game, and delighted in visiting amusement parks with his family, sharing his love of roller coasters with his daughter. Despite his formal demeanor, Fred had a playful side, blending intellectual conversations with lighthearted references to his favorite Tom & Jerry cartoons.

Fred's greatest joy came from his role as "Big Poppy." He treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren, whether playing, laughing, or continuing the cherished tradition of gifting Hess trucks at Christmas. His generosity and unwavering love will forever be remembered.

Family and friends are invited to honor Fred's life on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 West County Line Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
