Obituary of Gary Eickhoff
Gary, age 58, passed away suddenly at home on July 10, 2013. A life-long resident of Abington Township, Gary was the son of the late Oscar, Jr. and Marion Eickhoff. He is survived by his three brothers, Alan (Linda) of Warminster; Rev Jay of Newport, PA and Roger of Willow Grove; 5 nieces and nephews and 7 grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Gary was known as "Uncle Buk" to members of the family especially the nieces and nephews and had this on his license plate.
Gary graduated from Abington Hich School in 1973 and then attended Pennco Tech where he graduated from the Automotive Technology School. He worked for Abington Exxon, Jenkintown Boro and most recently for the Abington Police Department in the dispatch/radio room. He loved plants and animals and enjoyed his part time job as a park ranger for Abington Parks and Recreation and later in Lorimer Park for the Montgomery County Parks system. He was a volunteer fireman for Abington Fire Company and then joined the Independent Fire Company in Jenkintown. He served as the Fire Chief for Independent Fire Co from 1997 to 2000 and was on the Board of Trustees serving as Secretary at the time of his death.
Gary's life is best summed up by an Abington police officer who noted while he might have tried to act tough, he was too nice a guy to pull it off successfully. A Memorial Service for Gary will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 505 N. York Road, Hatboro, PA at 7 PM Monday July 22. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his memory be sent to Independent Fire Co, 609 Greenwood Avenue Jenkintown, PA 19046 or Abington Township Police Pension Association, PO Box 315 Abington, PA 19001-0314.
