Obituary of Geoffrey Brown

Brown, Sr.Geoffrey Alan, husband to the late H. Jean Le Poer Trench Brown, died peacefully at the age of 92 on June 29, 2011 at the Clare Bridge Assisted Living Facility in Dublin, PA. He was born on July 21, 1918, in Philadelphia, PA, son to the late Rev. Percy and Gladys Baden-Powell Brown. He graduated from Frankford High School, Torresdale, PA in 1936.

A World War II veteran (February 1941 - September 1945), Sgt. Brown served with Troup A, 104th Regiment of the First Troop Philadephia City Cavalry and later dispatched with the Army Air force Southeast Air Training Command in the European Theatre.

Geoffrey met his wife, Jean (WW II WASP aviator and ARC steward), while he was stationed in England. The couple married on December 15, 1945, in Staten Island, New York.

For many years Geoff and Jean, and their three children lived at the "Sevenoaks Farm" in Chalfont, PA where they established a series of wayside shops selling Geoffrey's home grown produce, farm-fresh eggs, general store goods, nursery plants, artwork, and hand crafted items to the residents of Bucks County, PA. After the family left the farm, Geoff became an associate with Strawbridges & Clothier in Philadelphia where he worked in furniture sales.

The couple spent most of their retirement years in their home in Doylestown, PA which bore witness to Geoffrey's talents as a landscape designer and horticulturist. In addition he loved to travel, enjoyed sports including sailing and golf, and he hand-crafted many miniature models. One of his biggest feats was an 80-mile bike ride to Cape May on his 80th birthday. In his later years, Geoffrey re-discovered his love and gift for singing for which he will be fondly remembered.

Mr. Brown is survived by his three children; Pamela B. Benson of Perkasie, PA, Geoffrey A. Brown, Jr. of Pennington, NJ, and Allison M. Brown of Lambertville, NJ, and his two sisters; Hetha Wagner, of St. Louis, MS., and Joan Sandbeck, of Wyndmoor, PA. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher, and his brothers, Jamie Brown and Hugh B-P Brown.
