H. John. Oertel, age 88, of Saylorsburg, Pa ( formerly of Philadelphia ), passed away on January 20, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Oertel (nee Oczkowski ), his sons John H. Oertel ( Maria ) and Will Oertel. Grandfather of Michael Oertel , Brianna Oertel, Samantha Shaiman and Domenic Pileggi, and great grandfather of Kennedy Oertel and Mackenzie Oertel . John was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris. John was the fleet mechanic for the former Eagle Truck Transport, Inc., located in Philadelphia, and for New Penn Trucking Company, also in Philadelphia, from which John retired . He was active in Odd Fellowship, and a member of Walker Lodge 306, Perseverance Encampment # 135 and Philadelphia Canton # 1. He held the rank of Captain at the time of the 100th Anniversary of Philadelphia Canton # 1 in May 1986. John played the organ and the accordian too. He was an active member of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and was a Scout Leader for Troop 168. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, January 27, 2017, 10 am, at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Rd., Feasterville, PA 19053 ( 215 - 354 - 0085 ), where John's life will be celebrated at 11 am. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust St., Philadelphia, PA 19103
