January 2, 1930 – September 30, 2024
Helen Mae DiNunzio, 94 of Levittown, PA, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 30th at home. Born in Bristol, PA, she was the oldest daughter of the late Walter and Martha Appleton. Helen was the wife of the late Dr. Dominick DiNunzio, to whom she was married for 67 years.
She was an education graduate of Shippensburg University in 1953, and along with her husband she continued to be actively involved in the university. Helen and her husband were also very active in Millersville University. She was an ancestor of Rev. Lewis M. Hobbs, who was instrumental in establishing Millersville Normal School. Helen along with her husband established the Lewis Hobbs Foundation which currently recognizes students displaying academic excellence and community service at the university. Following her graduation, she briefly taught in the Neshaminy School District before leaving the school district to raise her family. In 1978, she accepted a position with the Neshaminy School District as a teachers' aide, retiring in 1995.
Throughout her life Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and visiting Ocean City, NJ in the summer. Helen loved her sweets, especially a dish of ice cream each evening while watching Blue Blood or NCIS. She enjoyed collecting snowmen and snow women. A highlight of the week was going to the hair salon to get her hair set and visiting with her friends.
Helen is survived by her children, Dominick DiNunzio and his wife Deborah of Harbeson, DE, Mark DiNunzio and his wife Susan of Lititz, PA, Douglas DiNunzio of Levittown, and Celeste Hartzell of Levittown, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Martha Mundis of New Freedom, PA and two brothers-in- law Dr. Lewis DiNunzio and wife Joann and Dr. John DiNunzio and wife Connie. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum at 10:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00. AM. The address is 333 West County Line Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA.
