Irena A. (Luberda) Jeffries, age 89, wife of the late James E. Jeffries, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 in Philadelphia.

Born on November 11, 1931 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Julia Luberda.

Irene was a graduate of the Dobbins Vocational School in 1949.

On February 10, 1955, she married her late husband James E. Jeffries.

She was a former payroll clerk at the Navy Control Point in Northeast Philadelphia and held various positions throughout her life.

Irene had a passion for sewing. When she was a young adult, she sewed many of her own clothes. She then used these skills to sew costumes and household items for her family. However, her happiest moments were spent playing cards and games with her family and friends. Her jovial spirit always brought smiles and laughter to every gathering.

Irene is survived by her loving daughters, Julie Menkevich of Bensalem, and Jeanette Aksu wife of Enver Aksu of Lancaster. She was the proud Nana of James Menkevich (Kelly), Michelle Gillespie (Sean), Mary Tomczak (Michael), Kelly Aksu, Nicholas Aksu (Kathryn), and Cameron Aksu. She was a great Nana to Logan, Ava, and Oliver Menkevich, Leah and Saoirse Gillespie, and Sylvia and Vivian Tomczak.

She was preceded in death by her 4 siblings Mary, Louis, Edward, and Joseph Luberda.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Irene's service of Christian burial on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
