IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James S.
Patrick, Sr.
October 13, 1931 – February 28, 2021
James S. Patrick, Sr. (Jim), 89, passed away at home early Sunday morning, February 28, 2021 with his loving wife, sons, and daughter by his side. Jim was born and raised in the Frankford section of Philadelphia to Stephen and Anna Patrick in 1931. He, along with his older brothers enjoyed many summers in Margate, NJ, at their second home there. He attended Frankford High School, graduating in 1949. During his time there, he played some football but his real talent emerged from music and radio work. A Choir Director discovered Jim had an incredible tenor voice and encouraged him to do some solo singing and announcing for KYW Radio at the time. Although he never pursued it as a professional career, he could match the best of them and happily continued to entertain family and friends with his singing whenever an occasion called for it! Jim was a Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. While stationed at Willow Grove Naval Air Station, he represented the base as a Boxing Champ flown up and down the east coast for bouts. He attended Temple University with an interest in writing, but soon joined the family business. His entire 45-year career was spent working in steel plate fabrication as a business owner of 'Patrick & Sons', first with his father, Stephen, and his brothers, John and George; later with his own sons, Jim and Dan. He was also the founder of 'Clover Kartway', a premier go-cart race track which was part of the racing circuit during the '60s that attracted drivers from all over the east coast and racing fans from the Delaware Valley. It wasn't until his 5-year High School Class Reunion that Jim met the love of his life, Lorraine. Five years later, they married in July 1959. In 1964, they moved to Huntingdon Valley, PA, to raise their three children. Jim was an amazing Dad. He traded in his silver Corvette for a blue Station Wagon and with Lorraine by his side along with her Triple-A Maps, they fearlessly traveled across the country one summer with three antsy kids crammed in the back seat! So much fun was had, that family summer car trips all over the map became the norm. Moreover, each winter he'd drive the family to either Vermont or Maine for week-long family ski trips. Jim and Lorraine would occasionally leave the kids at home and enjoyed taking various cruises-- his favorites being aboard the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary ships. He loved home just as much and would often host fun extended family get-togethers. He always loved to entertain--whether it be his kids, family, friends, or anyone else--he was always welcoming and genuinely interested in everyone. He was kind, generous, and always ready to lend a helping hand if he could. He also liked to be entertained and was both an old movie buff and an avid Eagles fan. He attended many Eagles games and never missed one on TV. He enjoyed swimming in his pool for exercise, often doing laps totaling a mile or more. Jim's fun nature was a perfect fit for being PopPop Patrick to his seven beloved grandchildren. He adored them to no end, and loved spending time with them. He always enjoyed hearing what they were up to and undoubtedly he was one of their biggest fans in everything they did. Jim had a love for life, but his real passion was his devoted wife, Lorraine, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: James Patrick, Jr.; Daniel Patrick; Patricia Bisbee and her husband, John; his cherished grandchildren: Daniel Patrick, Jr.; Jillian Bisbee; Sean Patrick; Christina Bisbee; Christopher Patrick; Jack Bisbee; and Kelli Patrick.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's memory to any organization you feel helps others and is close to your heart.
