Obituary

J ane Waddington Hopf, born February 5, 1925 in Philadelphia, died on Thursday May 7, 2020 at the age of 95 in Rydal, PA. Jane grew up in the Northwood section of Philadelphia and her family later moved to Somerton. She attended Frankford High School where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Hopf. Jane briefly attended William and Mary College before she and Bob were married in 1945, in a WWII war wedding planned and carried out in 12 days. They spent several years living on military bases in Rapid City, North Dakota and Midland, Texas while Bob trained as a B-17 pilot for the Army Air Corps.

After the war, Jane and Bob settled in Mayfair. As they started their young family Jane attended Pierce Business School and Moore College of Art. They moved to Somerton where Jane was involved in the Somerton Women's Club. In 1970 t he family moved to Jenkintown where Jane was active in many community activities, including volunteering at the Elementary School Library. She was a faithful member of Jenkintown United Methodist Church for many years.

Jane was a skilled watercolor artist and avid gardener. At age 50 she combined her passions by earning a degree in Landscape Design from Temple University. She and a business partner established Down to Earth Landscape Design, where she used her artistic talents to create renderings and design and install residential gardens. Being a natural networker served her well in her career. She was a founding member of the Landscape Design Network , a local arm of the international Association of Professional Landscape Designers.

A d evoted wife, mother, grandmother, community member and friend, Jane was always willing to lend a smile and a hand to others. She spent summers in Ocean City, where she greeted friends and passersby on her wrap-around porch for eight decades of her life. Her family home there saw the comings and goings of four generations of family and friends, all united by Jane's love of people. Annual 'Night in Venice' parties were a highlight of the summer fun. She was an avid reader, lifelong learner and traveler, visiting destinations on six continents in her lifetime and inspiring her family to do the same. She even rode a camel by the Egyptian pyramids at age 83.

Jane is predeceased by her husband Bob, her parents, Robert and Dorothy Waddington, her brother Robert and her son, Bobby. She is survived by her brother Harry (Jenn ie ) Waddington, her three daughters, Wendy Hopf, Susan (Mark) Asher and Joanne (Jack Junttonen) Hopkins as well as her beloved grandchildren, George and William Blankin , Jill and Audrey Asher, Beau and Caroline Hopkins , and many nieces and nephews .
