Auriel was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico in 1944. With only an 8th grade education he became a successful self-employed business owner. For over 20 years he owned and operated a bodega in the Philadelphia area. Even in retirement he continued to own and operate a smaller business in Lajas, Puerto Rico. He was well known for finding the best pineapples in Puerto Rico. He enjoyed watching baseball games, cheering on his favorite team the Pirates. When he was not watching baseball he enjoyed gardening, music and cooking. In the morning you would find him setting food out for his feathered friends, before relaxing on the front porch to watch them feast. And on a warm sunny afternoon you could find him napping in hammock on the portico.
