Obituary

We are sorry to announce that on Friday, March 3, 2024, our beloved: Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt, Joan Marry Filemyr, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 77.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Thomas, twin sons John & Henry Filemyr III, her granddaughter, Jacquline Thomas.  Her brother and sister-in-law John & Peggy Schmidt, their children, her niece, Lisa, nephew, John and his wife Kate.  Her niece Veronica Castonguay and her children, Hunter, Hailey, Sydney, Serena & Max.

Born in Philadelphia PA, on March 28, 1947 to Joan & John Charles Schmidt. She graduated from ArchBishop Prendergast in 1965, then went on to graduate from Rosemont College with honors, in 1969.  Then, not soon after, she met a Mr. Henry R. Filemyr Jr, and on April 3, 1971, they got married.  Joan was devastated after each loss, both her parents, her sister Jean Patterson (2017), and sadly, her nephew Ronald Castonguay in 2008. but it was the loss of her husband, Henry R Filemyr Jr (2014), that hit her the hardest.  They had a wonderful, loving marriage for 42 years, but her love for him continued long after his passing.  For 10 years, her love for him never waned, but those 10 years without him were a struggle.  Their love & respect for each other taught their children what it entails to be in a loving relationship.

She deeply loved her family and friends.  She put herself last when it came to her family, just to ensure we had all we ever needed in life. A loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, as well a great friend and an incredible person.
