Obituary of John Easterday

My father John Thomas Easterday 11/28/28-01/10/2010 was born into poverty not having a father figure. As a young man he kept himself busy playing sports. He went on to play minor league baseball for The House of David. He then became a Philadelphia police officer. He met my Mother when he was on the beat. Her Mother owned a restaurant and he would come in for coffee, he said she made the best cup of coffee he ever tasted. He went on to father myself and my four siblings. He always made sure he never forgot his humble beginnings. He would take neighborhood boys out in his spare time and teach them how to play baseball. He was a strong man, but had a sensitive side and would cry along with us every time we watched The Wizzard of OZ. He was the only bread winner in the family on a police officers salary, but that didn't stop him from providing us with a roof over our heads, food on the table and clothing on our backs. We would always go on vacation to Wildwood N.J. every Summer. He taught me to appreciate what I had because there were always people worse off than us. He raised me to be a truthful, giving, caring, respectful strong woman. He never asked for much in life and loved his family dearly, his favorite thing in life was being surrounded by family. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer which moved into his bones. He fought and died with dignity surrounded by his family all lying on the bed holding him. One of the last things he asked of me was to take care of my mother, I promised him I would and he would be proud I have lived up to my promise. He lived his whole life in Philadelphia Pa.

John T. Easterday "Jack" passed away on January 10, 2010 at the age of 81.

He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth McKeever, his children Linda Conkey Easterday, Michael Easterday (Colleen), Sallie Strayer (Stephen), Elizabeth Holden (Thomas), Barbara Spangler (Michael); 11 grandchildren and his sister Joan Robertson.

John was a retired Police Officer and Pennsylvania Revenue Agent.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 10 AM at Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, PA with Funeral services at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
