Obituary of John Keene

John W. Keene, Jr., formerly of Philadelphia and Broomal, PA passed away on Sunday August 14, 2011. He spent his last four years in Langhorne, PA. He was 91.

Born in Golden Hill, MD, he was the son of Mattie and John W. Keene, Sr. He joined the Marine Corp in 1939 and was stationed at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. While stationed in Philadelphia, he met and married his wife, the late Marion Halpine. With the start of World War II, he saw action in Iwo Jima, and was part of the Japanese occupying force at the end of the war.

After leaving the Marine Corp, he was employed by Philadelphia Electric Company and held various positions; including truck driver, crane operator and supervisor in the transportation division until his retirement in October 1984.

John is survived by his children; Linda Lowney (Bill), Barbara Hutchinson (Frank), Patricia Wheaton (Ray), John III (Jeanne), Ken (Barbara), Kathleen Conaway (Bob), Joanne, and a sister Kathleen Davis. he will be missed by his 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his dearest friend, Ann Orlofski of Havertown, PA.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday August 17 from 10 AM at the Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice in the name of John W. Keene, Jr.
