It is with a very heavy heart that we're letting our friends & families know that our Father John P McGratton, Sr. "Jake" passed away Saturday 8/7 peacefully in his sleep after many years battling Dementia and other ailments. John somehow managed to fight through all of these health challenges over the years with a smile on his face and a deep sense of love in his heart. John will be missed dearly by so many. Our fond memories will last a lifetime and we take a sense of comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.

John was born on March 8, 1940 and he was raised in St Joe's Orphanage from a very young age. John proudly joined the United States Marine Corp in his teen years and was honorably discharged after his service to our country. John married 57 years ago to the love of his life Sandra Jeffries McGratton and worked very hard throughout the years at Septa to support his family. John retired from Septa with over 25 years of service. He enjoyed playing many sports throughout the years, especially softball with friends from the Empty Glass Tavern. John was an avid Philadelphia Sports Fan and would never pass up the chance to attend a live event with friends and family. But most of all he enjoyed quality time with his family and watching them grow throughout the years.

Survived by Wife Sandra, Children Melanie McGratton Caesar (husband John Romano) and John McGratton Jr. (wife Dana), Grandchildren Shannon, Jayden, Brandon, Mackenzie, Paige, and John III.

A private ceremony is being planned at Washington Crossing National Cemetery for immediate family.
