IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Ko-Wan
Wu
September 21, 1946 – August 21, 2021
John Ko-wan Wu, age 74, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Born on September 21, 1946, the oldest of 9 children, in Canton, China and immigrated to NYC in 1972. John married Grace Chan and had two daughters, Jennifer and Theresa, and resided in NE Philadelphia. He worked tirelessly as an owner and cook at the family's Chinese Restaurants, Green Jade in the Northeast and then eventually at Full House Chinese Restaurant in Upper Darby, PA.
John was a gentle and quiet man who loved birds, especially roosters and cardinals. He enjoyed going downtown on the bus/subway and walking around the city. He loved going to St. John Newman's church to say a prayer, go to mass and light candles. He gardened and grew vegetables and fruit at home, but his greatest pride was his persimmon tree and melon patch, which he would share with friends and neighbors. John would also travel to his family home in Sai Kung, Hong Kong, where two of his remaining sisters reside. He oftentimes would walk to the waters there to watch the sunrise.
He is survived by his wife, Grace, his oldest daughter, Jennifer, his son-in-law Brandon and his two grandchildren, Madeleine and Cooper and his youngest daughter, Theresa, his son-in-law Jesse and his grandson, Alexander.
He is also survived by his sisters, Theresa, Cecelia, Margaret, and his brothers, Francis and Joseph. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Dominic, Benny and Anthony, and his parents, Pak Young Woo and Kan Fai Mo.
He will be missed greatly and never forgotten.
A private family service will be held on Tuesday, August 31th, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel in Huntingdon Valley. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park.
