IN LOVING MEMORY OF
José Maria
Cabeceiro
May 25, 1929 – August 31, 2022
Jose' Maria Cabeceiro, 93 years old of Philadelphia PA passed away on August 31, 2022.
Jose was born on a Saturday, May 25
th
, 1929 in Portugal in a region called Tras Os Montes. Jose was the last of his siblings: Nascimento, Antonio, Ernestina, and Geronimo. Jose came from a family of tailors, which was his life's work. Jose and his wife, Adelina, came to Philadelphia in 1977, where they married and later had their only son, Antonio. They resided in the Olney section of Philadelphia and later moved to the Pine Valley neighborhood. Jose and Adelina were more than just husband and wife, but they were also business partners and devoted parents to their son Antonio. Their only dream was to provide Antonio with the opportunities that were not provided to them in Portugal. Jose and Adelina made the sacrifice of uprooting their lives from their country, language, and customs with the ambition of having a better life in the U.S. Jose was the most devoted father and loyal partner. He made sure that there was always food on the table and a roof over his family's head. He never wanted Antonio to learn his trade, rather he wanted Antonio to be the first Cabeceiro with an education and a career in addition to being first generation American born. Jose was an addicted workaholic who could never stay still and would always find a need to make improvements to make things better. Jose's world was his wife Adelina, his son Antonio, his granddaughter Adelina, and his daughter-in-law Heather. Family was the only priority for him. He loved Cadillacs, wrestling, watching Three's Company, and every now and then Jerry Springer. But his favorite TV show was Seinfeld and he loved George Constanza. He called it the "George Show". Jose's family was blessed enough to have him spend the remainder of his years at home until his last breath amongst his son Antonio. Jose's greatest achievement was his family. A traditional story of poverty to stability.
