Obituary

Joseph A. Zipley of Maple Glen and Ocean City passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on January 9, 1931, to Arnolfo and Concetta (Falcone) Zippilli, he was the youngest of six children.  Joe lived a long life defined by devotion to his family, quiet strength, and steadfast love. He is now reunited in eternal rest with his beloved wife of 66 years, May Fern Cunningham Zipley, who predeceased him on June 2, 2025.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army in Okinawa, carrying with him a deep sense of duty and commitment that remained evident throughout his life. Following his military service, he worked his way up from apprentice to executive roles and soon owned a retail roofing company.  Overcoming many obstacles along the way, he eventually started and established a successful wholesale building supply business, Roslyn Supply Company, which eventually expanded to serve several locations.  He would say his success did not come easily, as he recounted in his book, "It Wasn't Easy", yet he believed it was possible with hard work, perseverance and a positive outlook.

Joe was a generous man who shared his success with those around him.  You can see that at Abington Hospital with the Zipley Garage, Atrium and Garden; or at Roslyn Supply, where he sold his company to three long-time employees; or the multiple friends, employees, and family that he helped out over the years.

Joe devoted himself to his family and to building a life centered on faith, loyalty, and love.
On August 30, 1958, Joe married his cherished May, and together they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and tradition. He was a proud and loving father to their son, Dale, whom he supported wholeheartedly.

He took immense pride in the life he and May built together over more than six decades of marriage; and they enjoyed sharing stories of their time together, friendships they made throughout the years, reminiscing about their travels to many interesting locations, and their fondness for animals, like their beloved dog, Claude.  Joe was a long-time member of Cedarbrook Country Club, enjoying many golf outings and playing cards with his fellow club members.

Joe shared May's love for family gatherings and friendships that spanned generations. Whether celebrating with loved ones, hosting friends for various occasions including their annual Night in Venice parties, enjoying leisure time in Ocean City and riding on his boat on the bay with Dale by his side, he was happiest surrounded by the water, listening to his favorite music, and being with those he loved.

Joe was a natural leader, someone with a strong focus, steady presence, gentle nature, and unwavering devotion to his wife and family and to his faith. His life was a testament to loyalty, service, and enduring love. Though he will be deeply missed, there is comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved May.

Family and friends are invited to gather at 10:00 am on Friday, February 20th, 2026 at Saint Alphonsus Church, 1571 Temple Drive, Maple Glen, PA 19002.  The Mass will begin promptly at noon, before we escort Mr. Zipley to his final resting place at Sunset Memorial Park.
