Obituary

Kenneth Gibilisco, age 84, passed away peacefully on December 20th 2024 at 4:43am in the presence of his beloved wife Carol. Ken was the son of Marie (O'Brien) Gibilisco and Salvatore Gibilisco, both preceded in death. He was the beloved brother of Barbara, Robert, and Salvatore Gibilisco Jr., also preceded in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years Carol (Vickery) Gibilisco, Son Dante, and husband Dwayne Acevedo. Daughter Tara and husband Chris Benninger. His two grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Kaitlyn Benninger and fiancé Drew Rehrig, he spent most of his retirement teaching Kaitlyn his love of art, music, and reading,—and acted as a guiding light from childhood to adulthood, and Daniel Acevedo who he taught his love of art to. His grandchildren were both the apple of his eye. Two Nephews; Salvatore (Tory) Gibilisco III, and wife Janice, also Robert and wife Hiromi Nasife. Niece: Michelle and husband Daniel Davis. Great nephew: Chase Gibilisco. And many other family and good friends whose lives he touched with his unique wit, integrity, and humor.

Kenneth grew up in Havre de Grace, Maryland, and moved to Philadelphia in 1955. He graduated from Frankfurt High School in 1958. He also received a full scholarship towards the Philadelphia Museum of Art--later called in modern day: University of the Arts--for his art talent. He worked hard at night school to achieve his degree in Graphic Design that landed him a job at Battle Malis, in which he created and designed magazine ads, television ads, and even became the Art Director. He then worked as the Senior Package Design Engineer at Merck, Sharp and Dohme Pharmaceuticals for over 20 years. In that time, he designed household packages like Sucrets, Hold, and Calgon. He also held over 40 US & World patents under Merck & Co for packages like Timoptic, and various other pharmaceuticals. He also invented several child resistant closures which we still use today. He also designed the Apothecary still in the West Point Facility today. He retired in 1992.

Ken loved the outdoors, painting and other forms of art, Opera and various music, fishing, his mountain cabin, and a good delicious cheesesteak. He saw the beauty in everything and everyone, and took the time to always share his vast knowledge with everyone. He also often met every situation with integrity and a witty quip to make others around him laugh. He was the epitome of knowledge and bringing a light to every room.
