Obituary

Leonard M. Giacabetti, age 76, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 in Voorhees, New Jersey.

Leonard is survived by his children, Donna O'Brien, Kimberly Gilpin (Frederick) and Leonard (Gina). His grandchildren, Jaimie, Brittany, Erin, Ryan, Briana and Lenny. Honorary grandchildren, Kerri and Antoinette. His two great grandchildren, Kaleigh and Ella. His nephew, Dallas (Amy) and niece, Kate (Chris). His step children, John (Sue), Debbie, Christina and Ed (Debbie) and 9 step grandchildren.

Leonard is predeceased by his former wives, Marie and Diane, his parents Leonard and Anna, his siblings, Kathryn and Thomas (Patricia) and nephew, Edwin.

After graduating from High School, Leonard went on to serve in the United States Army Reserves. He joined the Plumbers Union Local 690 where he worked until retirement. During that time he married Marie with whom he was blessed with his 3 children. Leonard devoted himself to his family, his job and his music.  He later met Diane and they were married for 21 years.

Leonard was a lifelong member of the Mummers where he was part of Uptown, Aqua, Greater Kensington and Fralinger Stringbands.  He was inducted into the Stringband Hall of Fame in 1990.  His first Mummers parade was at the age of 10.

He found his greatest joy in his family, but his second love was playing his saxophone on a daily basis.  He also had a deep love for his pets, the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, fishing, playing his combo jobs and the last 4 years he resided at Seaton Hall in Voorhees, NJ where he was an Ambassador and would call Bingo weekly and would play his saxophone for the residents on their birthdays.

Friends and family are invited to gather Thursday, October 17th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel 333 West County Line Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA  19006 and again on Friday, October 18th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  (Anyone interested in playing on Thursday evening, the band will start at 7:30 pm and music will be provided.)  A funeral service will he held at 11:00 am Friday, October 18th, before escorting Leonard to his final resting place at Sunset Memorial Park.
