Obituary of Louis Shields

Louis William Shields, 92, of Feasterville, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital December 16th, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Louis was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania of Alice Weber and James Peter Shields. He later moved to Fairless Hills, PA and raised a family. Louis was a Veteran of the United States Navy during WW II where he was an Aviation Metal Smith, repairing damaged air craft. He then spent 28 years proudly employed at U.S. Steel as a Blacksmith. Louis enjoyed physical fitness, wood carving, hunting, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and was a Pennsylvania State Horseshoe Pitching Champion.

Louis was widowed by his beloved wife Mary Raber Shields, whom he was dedicated to for 56 years. Louis is survived by two brothers, James and John Shields and his loving sister, A. Lorraine Deeter. He will be sadly missed by his five children: Louis Jr., John, Tom, Jim and only daughter, Mary Lou whom he had lived with for the past 15 years. He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren: Louis III, Amy, Lisa, Cynthia, Dean, Christopher, John, Megan, Mario, Daniela, James Jr., Patricia, Cody, Thomas, Melissa, 21 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service that will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 8:30 in the morning at St. Francis Cabrini 325 South Oxford Valley Road, Fairless Hills, PA 19030. A mass will immediately follow beginning at 9:30 and a burial service at Sunset Memorial Park 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that contributions be made to Tyler Park Center of the Arts in his memory.
