Obituary of Malvin Thomas

Malvin H. Thomas of Southampton passed away October 17, 2011. He was 86.. The beloved husband of Lois (nee Hartner) he is also survived by his children; Karen Smyth (Gregory), Charles A. Thomas (Caren Franz), and Gregory M. Thomas (Andra), grandchildren Kelsey and Allison Smyth, brothers Adam Thomas and Anthony Thomas and a sister Ruth Reda. Born in Canonsburg, PA, Malvin attended the University of Pittsburgh and was an avid Steelers fan and fisherman.While attending Canonsburg High School, he was an active participant in track, football and wrestling. He was drafted into the Army in May 1944 while still attending high school. A Private First Class, he spent two years in the Army during WWII including a tour of duty in Japan and received the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After returning home from the War, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, where he spent three years pursuing his dream of becoming a wresting coach. But he left college in his senior year to pursue employment with what was then known as Western Electric making a career out of telephone equipment installation in many regional telephone offices including a special assignment at the Pentagon in the 1960s. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday evening October 21 from 6 to 8pm at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel 333 County Line Rd. Feasterville and again on Saturday October 22 from 9:30am with funeral services at 10:30am. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
