Marie A. Fenton, lovingly known as Mom, Gram, Big Momma, M&M, GiGi, and GiGiGi, passed away on March 26, 2026, at the age of 85 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Born on October 23, 1940, in Philadelphia, Marie was the beloved daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth Turnbull. She grew up surrounded by family and shared her early life with her three sisters, Millie, Marthann, Betty Lou and Shirley, and her brother, Jerry.
Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend whose life centered on loving and caring for others. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fenton; her children, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Castor and Billy Carter; her parents; and her siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Marie Given and her husband Bill, Grace O'Brien and her husband Michael, and Diane Sims and her husband John.
She also leaves behind a large and loving family, including her grandchildren Star Sherry, Dana DiJoseph, Chucky Quattrone, Anthony Quattrone, Robert Castor, Holly Castor, Mark Castor, George Fenton, Jimmy O'Brien, Colleen O'Brien, Alex Sims, Samantha Sims, and Madison Birmingham, as well as 27 great-grandchildren and 4 great, great children. Marie was also a cherished aunt, cousin, and friend to many who loved her deeply.
Marie was the heart of her family, the matriarch and unshakable rock for everyone who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, generosity, work ethic, wild spirit, and fierce independence. She believed in working hard, loving hard, showing up for the people you love, and always being the strength others could lean on.
She found joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending her senior groups, and bowling with her team. More than anything, she loved her family and friends, and she made each person feel the depth of that love.
Her family will always remember her as unforgettable, deeply loved, and one of a kind. She lived her life with courage, grace, and an endless heart full of love. Her laughter, wisdom, and warmth will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Marie's visitation from 10 AM to 11 AM on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 W. County Line Rd. Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. A celebration of life will follow at 11 AM.
Marie will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park following services.
Luncheon will be held at Cottage Green, 9001 Aston Rd. Philadelphia, PA 19136 from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marie's name may be made to Sunset Memorial Park, 333 W. County Line Rd. Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
