Obituary

Martha Ann Baun (nee-DeBold) of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 at the age of 83.
Martha was born in Philadelphia to Harvey C. DeBold and Edith M. DeBold (nee-Olmstead).

Martha is survived by her husband Charles R. Baun-married for 62 years (nobody understands exactly how Charles lasted that long but God Bless him…LOL) and two daughters Susan B. Melnick (nee-Baun) (husband-Mark) and Debra A. Baun (husband-Michael) as well as two sisters Nancy C. Thaler (nee-DeBold) (husband-Joseph) and Bonnie J. Bryan (nee-DeBold) (husband-James-deceased).

She is also survived by her brother-in-law Raymond Baun (wife-Bernadette) and nieces and nephews Diane Casola (husband-Chip) (daughter Grace-husband Mikell), Steven Rash (wife-Leah), Jennifer Williamson (husband-Scott), William Bryan and Jessica Hinkie (husband-Christian).

Martha was born during World War II and spent her earliest years being raised by her mother and extended family while her father served in the Navy. As a teenager her family moved to Croydon where her father with Martha's help built their family house. After high school Martha worked as a secretary and at a bank. She met her Charlie and they married. As Charlie said many times, "She was out of my league", but they made a beautiful couple. Martha cared for her 2 girls, 22 foster children and many friends and family. Martha's favorite job was "Mom" and she did it oh so well. She had a 30 year career at Sears and Roebuck where she worked in the Men's department and in Security. The things she loved to do mainly involved her church. She was an extremely active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burholme for over 50 years. She was a member of their church council, drove the church bus, was head of the alter guild and her most joyous contribution to Immanuel was being in their choir. Martha alway made a joyful noise. Outside of church Martha's passion was wood working. Martha and her sister Nancy created so many beautiful things. "Shop Days" were once a week and if you called while the sisters were working in the shop your call was always cut short. Family and friends have many beautiful items produced in The Shop. You could commission something. Submitting your idea and sketch of your idea. Everyone was encouraged to help create your masterpiece. So many happy memories working with mom and Nancy in the Shop. Surprisingly, no fingers or toes were lost!

Martha was a bright light in the world that has gone out but heaven has gained an angel.
