Michael P. Garvey, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Originally from the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Mike was a lifelong Philadelphia area resident who loved the city's history and neighborhoods. He was the devoted husband to Suzanne (nee Lennon). Mike was the loving father of Michael (Tara), and proud Pop-Pop of Ciara and Sean. Mike was the fourth of fourteen children and devoted brother to Charles, Walter (Andrea), Theresa (Robert), Russell (Sandra), Marie (Thomas), and Steven (Lisa). Mike was preceded in death by his loving mother and father, Alberta and Charles Garvey, and brothers James, Jon, Martin, Joseph, Donald, Ralph, and Dennis. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.

He was a devoted and proud member of Roofers' Union Local 30, serving as a Business Agent before his retirement. He made many friends at the union and loved sharing his stories from the trades.

An active member of Philadelphia's Irish American community, Mike was a member of the Philadelphia Irish Society and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 39. In 1992, he was honored as the recipient of the John J. McCullough Irishman of the Year.  From the early days of the North Wildwood Irish Weekend to the Annual Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade, Mike was there with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.

Until health issues limited his mobility, Mike loved to explore the neighborhoods of Philadelphia. He shared his love of the city with his family by taking them on tours of the city, which always finished with good food and dessert. However, in recent years, nothing gave him more pleasure than time with his grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at St. Albert the Great Church, 212 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. A funeral mass will immediately follow at 10:30 am. Interment will take place after in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 3301 W Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19150.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel.
