IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nora Janetta
Lyons
September 3, 1923 – October 9, 2024
Our Beloved Mother, Nora Janetta Lyons (Adams) (Hoffman) passed away on October 9, 2024, at the impressive age of 101. She was blessed to be mentally sharp and in good health throughout her life.
Nora was born in Reading, Pa to Lulu and George Robert Adams on September 3, 1923. As a young woman she experienced financial struggles of the Great Depression and multiple grief within her immediate family during WWII. It was these experiences which shaped her personality. Nora's siblings, George, Maggie, Mary, Irene, Becky and Rose have all predeceased her.
During WWII, she married her neighbor, Leonard John Hoffman, Army Infantry, while on his furlough on January 3, 1944. They planned children immediately upon his return. However, Leonard was killed in action as the first fallen liberator of the Netherlands. Leonard is buried at the Henry Chapelle Cemetery in Belgium. The 80th Anniversary of the Liberation was just celebrated last month on the day he was killed September 12th. Nora held Leonard's purple heart, and a piece of her heart always remained honored to him.
After the war and short courtship, Nora married our father, Albert G. Lyons, a handsome Navy sailor from Philadelphia. They married in a simple sunrise service on a snowy Christmas morning, in 1946. Nora and Al shared a wonderful life and enjoyed 63 years together before our dad's passing on March 25, 2010. They raised three children, Larry (Coley), Gary (Maureen) and LuAnn (Paul). Her children treasure many memories of their wonderful childhood, holidays and travels together. Nora enjoyed spending time and hearing updates of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Christopher, Morgan, Madison, Joshua, Matthew, Allen, Meghann, Jason, Sophia, Everly, Paul, Cole, Daniel, Brooke, Gemma, Charlie, and Timothy whom she loved dearly.
Mom was also an especially devoted daughter-in-law and cared for Al's widowed mother for many years in their home. They moved to Buckingham Springs when Al retired where they created many wonderful friendships and happy memories.
Nora had a wonderful celebration of life last year on her 100th birthday. It was a special day to honor her long-blessed life with family and friends. God Bless our mother. May she be granted eternal rest with the Lord Jesus whom she served and loved.
A private funeral service for Nora's immediate family will be held Monday, October 14th, 2024 at Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel 11 a.m. and burial at Sunset Memorial in Feasterville, PA. in lieu of flowers to family members or funeral we ask for donations be made to the Peter Becker Community, https://www.peterbeckercommunity.com/giving/ Attn: Benevolent Fund, 800 Maple Avenue, Harleysville, PA 19438.
