Obituary of Paul Cooke

Paul C. Cooke, Jr. of Fairless Hills, passed away at his New York residence on Monday August 30, 2010. He was a long-time resident of Bucks County, PA, where he lived at 224 Andover Road since 1957. Mr. Cooke served in the Navy at the end of WWII. An industiral engineer by trade, he was employed for years by Fleer, a Philadelphia company that produces baseball cards and buble gum. Mr. Cooke was also a pilot in his younger years, enjoying flying his own plane. A long time member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows, he also served as the Grand Master for the state of Pennsylvania in 1984.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Sr., his mother, Mary, his sisters, Anna Hartnett Jarell and Fay Downes, and his brother, David Cooke. He is survived by his son, Paul C. Cooke, III, his daughter, Susan Cooke James, a brother, Reginald Cooke, and his sister Paula Cooke. In addition to his son and daughter, Mr. Cooke is also survived by five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Having a caretakers heart, Paul cared for his mother, Mary, his wife, Winifred and his friend, Eleanor Styers, before their deaths. Paul loved yard work and landscaping, especially the many shrubs that he tenderly cared for.

Though cautious and prudent in many areas, he was also known as a fearless and sometimes reckles driver, one not easily intimidated by the eastern big city drivers. Partial to seafood, many of his meals during the last few years he was at home were taken at Dom's, a local seafood market. More of a market than a restaurant, the owners installed a table known as Paul's table. When he arrived, he seldom ordered. Instead, he waited patiently until his place appeared with whatever the kitchen had decided he would have that day. Never a fast eater, he then spent a couple of hours savoring every bite.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather Saturday, September 4 at the Kirk and Nice Suburban Chapel at 9:30 AM for visitation and 10:30 AM for Mr. Cooke's funeral service. Interment is to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Kirk and Nice is located at 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, PA.
