Rafaela Gonzalez (née Fontanez), a devoted wife, mother, educator, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026. She was 95 years old.
Born on March 9, 1930, in Puerto Rico, Rafaela was the beloved daughter of the late Juan Fontanes and Josefina Ramos. Raised with strong family values and a commitment to education, she went on to earn her Master's Degree and dedicated her professional life to teaching. As an educator, Rafaela touched countless lives with her patience, wisdom, and unwavering belief in the power of learning.
Rafaela shared 73 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Benjamin C. Gonzalez, who predeceased her on December 1, 2024. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to family. Their partnership was one of enduring commitment and mutual respect, serving as an example to all who knew them.
Above all, Rafaela treasured her role as a mother and grandmother. She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Nancy Rodriguez and Sonia Martindell, her sister Tonita Fontanez, along with her extended family and friends who will continue to cherish her memory. Her warmth, strength, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Rafaela will be remembered for her grace, intelligence, and the steadfast love she gave so freely. Though she is now reunited with her beloved Benjamin, her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the many students she inspired throughout her life.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Rafaela's life on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026 at the Chapel of Peace on the grounds of Sunset Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m., 333 West County Line Road, Huntingdon Park, PA 19006.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
