Obituary

Ray G. Deane, of North Fort Myers Florida, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away at home in Florida on February 22, 2023, age 82 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gayle (nee Smith), sister Betty Kanagie (Dennis), his favorite niece, Janet Pierson (Matt), and their children Courtney VanAuken Wurst (Brett), Christian VanAuken, his favorite nephews, Dennis Kanagie (Windy), and David Kanagie (Tina), and their children Nicholas Kanagie, Stephanie Kanagie and numerous cousins. Ray was pre-deceased by his mother and father Catherine Deane (Harvey) and Winston Harold Deane, and numerous cousins.

Ray was born in the Kensington section of Philadelphia in 1940.  He graduated from Mastbaum High School, class of 1959 after attending Frankford HS. Ray was in law enforcement for many years and proudly served as a state investigator until his retirement in 1995. He met the love of his life, Gayle, in Florida, and were wed in 2003. They spent the better part of 20 years together traveling from their Florida home in the winters, to their New Jersey shore house in Wildwood Crest in the summers. They both had a love for auctions. Ray loved good food, traveling, fishing during the summers in New Jersey, and spending time with his family which he cherished above all. Not having children of his own, he formed very close bonds with his niece and nephews. He was a loving, kind, gentle-hearted person and will be missed by all who knew him.
