Obituary of Robert Monti

Robert U. Monti, former President of the Bristol, PA based Bunting Bristol Transfer and Monti Truck Rental, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Meadowood Retirement Community, Lansdale, PA where he had been a resident since November, 2008. He was 87.

Bob Monti, a native of Bristol, PA was the son of Louis and Elvire (Premici) Monti who emigrated from Ascoli Piceno, Italy, to the United States, and settled in Bristol during the early 1910's.

Mr. Monti was a 1941 graduate of Bristol High School. He entered the Army in 1943 and transferred to the Army Air Corps where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. A veteran of World War II, Monti was assigned to a military airbase in Bakersfield, CA where he evaluated, repaired, and tested military aircraft used within the continental United States and the Pacific Theater. He received an honorable discharge in 1949 and returned to Bristol. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and General Door prior to becoming the General Manager of O'Connor & Company. In 1960, Monti and his wife Dorothy purchased and expanded Bunting Bristol Transfer - a Class B common carrier that operated in the Delaware Valley and surrounding areas. The Montis closed the business and retired to their Pocono home in 1986.

Monti had been an active and long time member of Harriman United Methodist Church, Bristol as well as Paupack United Methodist Church, Paupack, PA. He was a member of United Methodist Men at both churches and served in various positions on the respective Administrative Boards.

Monti is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy, sons Bob (wife Pamela), Lewes, DE and Mark (wife Elizabeth) Oakland, CA, daughter Deborah Monti-Daniels, Ambler, PA, three grandchildren (Robert R. Monti, Megan Ksenzakovic, Margaret Daniels) and three great grandchildren (Robert E., Mark C, and Faith L. Monti).

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Road Feasterville, PA. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, PA will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the National Parkinson Foundation , c/o John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD 21201, or a charity of your choice.
