IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Wiegert
December 13, 1930 – November 21, 2021
Robert Wiegert, 90, of Philadelphia passed away at home on November 21, 2021. He was born in Poland to the late
Albert
and Augusta Wiegert and emigrated to America in the 1950's. He was the loving husband of the late Gerda (Naive) Wiegert. Robert was drafted in the US Army and served in Korea. He moved from Ridgewood, NYC, to Philadelphia so his children could enjoy green grass. He resided in Philadelphia until his death.
He started his work journey first as a mason, bringing his skills from the old country. Later he became a maintenance mechanic at a meat processing plant. Robert was an avid gardener who always shared his bounty of fruits and vegetables with the neighbors. He was always proud of his fig tree and went to great lengths to keep it alive during the winter. He was Mr. Fix It, always finding a cost effective way to fix things for himself, neighbors, and friends. He was going up the ladder to his roof to do preventative maintenance still at 90 years old. He loved socializing and sharing a drink with his community. He enjoyed going to the Cannstatter Volksfest Vereinand and the Bayern German Club, where he took his wife dancing back in the day. After his wife passed he continued to frequent Cannstatter Fest to meet the candidate for mayor, which was a club tradition. He relished good conversation when it came to news headlines, history, and life lessons.
Robert is survived by his children Helene Hale,
Albert
R. Wiegert (Susan), and Debra Soltau (Troy); grandchildren Jacob and Gregory (Brittany) Hale; great grandchildren Alexander and Emily Hale; siblings Elsa, Martha, Lotte, and Dora; and many other loving family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents; wife; and siblings Alfred and Helene.
All are welcome on Friday, Dec. 10 to Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 W. County Line Rd., Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 for a visitation from 1-2pm, and a memorial service at 2pm. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
