Obituary

  • Shaun Matthew Delp passed away on October 8, 2026, at the age of 46. While his time with
  • us was far too brief, Shaun leaves behind a wealth of cherished memories—truly the only things
  • we take with us.

  • To his parents, Shaun was their long-awaited “miracle baby,” arriving after nine years of hope.
  • As a young boy, he was sweet, loving, strong-willed, and exceptionally bright. As a baby, he
  • never went anywhere without his binky and later was rarely seen without his favorite Oscar the
  • Grouch in tow. Later in life, he was almost always accompanied by his devoted black Lab,
  • Tyson. Shaun possessed a quick, dry sense of humor from the very start. Once at the age of
  • 2 1⁄2 on a flight to Florida, as the fly attendant came by to ask for drink orders, he removed his
  • binky and ordered a “gin and tonic”...

  • Shaun had an endless appetite for adventure. He soared in a glider, went tandem parasailing
  • with his mom, fly-fished with his dad, embarked on deep-sea fishing trips, shot sporting clays
  • with his brother, and even chose to celebrate his tenth birthday in New York City taking in The
  • Phantom of the Opera. Countless family traditions colored his youth: picnics at the “Big House,”
  • fire engine and golf cart rides with PopPop, sipping Shirley Temples with his MomMom, shooting
  • .22s and driving the tractor with PopPop John, racing his brother on Honda Odysseys, and
  • playing tennis, golf and Uno with his family.

  • One of Shaun’s proudest milestones was an unforgettable journey out west to Jackson Hole for
  • a month-long backpacking expedition with Outward Bound. Family vacations were central to
  • Shaun’s world: rafting the Snake River, marveling at the Grand Canyon, waterskiing on Lake
  • Powell and Lake Wallenpaupack, and carving down ski slopes from the Poconos to Vermont,
  • Colorado, Quebec, California, and Big Sky, Montana—where he later returned for a memorable
  • summer fishing trip with his father.

  • Annual family trips to Hilton Head were always a highlight (with the exception of one memorable
  • jellyfish sting and an unforgettable poisonous frog incident). Those getaways were packed with
  • fond rituals: dinners at Damon’s for ribs, trips to Fuddruckers, grabbing slices at Sharky’s Pizza,
  • long bike rides, competitive rounds of mini-golf, diving for sand dollars, and on every single road
  • trip down, enthusiastically begging to stop at “South of the Border.” Every year, Shaun and his
  • brother, Jason, diligently pooled their savings into the “Vacation Jar” for an annual adventure of
  • their own choosing, with feeding dolphins from a Zodiac boat ranking as a favorite. His family
  • will always smile remembering a weekend trip to Hershey where there was a craft fair at the
  • hotel and after watching a folk-art woodpecker tap its way down a pole, a wide-eyed young
  • Shaun announced to everyone that all he wanted for Christmas that year was a “pecker.”

  • Shaun held a deep love for music, learned to play guitar by ear and was often the resident DJ
  • for his circle of friends. He took life’s lighter moments in stride; during his parents 25th wedding
  • anniversary vow renewal, his Mom and Dad, instead of smashing the slice of cake in the face of
  • each other, they both took the cake and smashed it into both Jason and Shaun’s face. Jason
  • ducked but Shaun was not as quick. The incident and the pictures were priceless.

  • Shaun met life’s challenges with quiet resilience, overcoming obstacles to graduate from Central
  • Bucks West High School in 1998. He competed in shot put on the CB West track team and
  • swam for the Manufacturers Golf and Country Club swim team, highlighted by an unforgettable
  • final relay swim alongside his brother that made his mother beam with pride.

  • Professionally, Shaun was a gifted and meticulous precision machinist with Jade Tool and Die.
  • His PopPop, who recognized his determined personality and talent, fondly declared, “Shaun,
  • you are a little son of a gun, and someday I want you to run my shop”. Outside of work, Shaun
  • connected with friends across the globe through gaming, building lasting camaraderie and true
  • kinship.

  • Shaun is survived by his loving mother, Debra Delp; his dear brother, Jason Delp; favorite
  • sister-in-law, Keri; his cherished niece, Maryn; and many other family members and friends. He
  • was preceded in death by his beloved father, John Delp.

  • A memorial service celebrating Shaun’s life will be held at a later date.

  • In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shaun’s honor to Brookline Lab Rescue
