Suor Meng Lyv, 71, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026. He battled cancer with the same resilient spirit with which he lived his entire life. His wife and children fought fiercely by his side.

Everything he did, he did for his family.

Suor was funny.

Whatever you needed, big or small, Suor was consistent: it cost two dollars. Once, after noticing his daughter Monica and her friends haphazardly kick off their shoes in the house, Suor lined them up neatly behind the storm door and hung a sign facing the street: "Shoes for Sale - $2."

Suor saved many people.

Born in Kampong Cham, Cambodia, Suor survived the Cambodian genocide, where that same resourcefulness helped keep him, and many others, alive. He kept forced laborers warm with discarded tarps, foraged for herbal medicine to cure sicknesses, and read the sky to guide lost refugees safely home.

When he immigrated to the United States in 1979, Suor continued to impress with his knowledge and skills in healing. He worked for over 30 years making orthopedic, surgical and medical supplies that have helped millions of people heal and restore physical movement.

Suor is deeply loved.

He never lost his wit and charm. After impressing his future father-in-law with his command of the Chinese language, he married the love of his life, Muy Lim. Together, they traveled across the entire country, with two babies in tow, to build a new life and grow their family in Philadelphia.

He is survived by his wife Muy Lim, his son Rob Lyv, daughters Christina Yip, Monica Lyv, and Jenny Lyv; daughter- and sons-in-law, Christine Medina, Will Yip, Vince Chung, and Micah Savaglio; and grandchildren: Ben, Sophia, Ava, and Milo, all of whom carry forward his humor, resilience, and inventive spirit.

If you find yourself in a garden, enjoying seafood, smelling jasmine flowers, or coming across a $2 bill, think of Suor. His spirit lives on.
