In Loving memory of Thomas Stephen Matik of Philadelphia, PA
Tom passed on December 22, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born of the late Stephen Matik and Helen Tokar of McKeesport, PA. Beloved husband of Angela Ethridge-Matik for 38 years and loving father of Shawn Matik. He is survived by his wife, Angela Ethridge-Matik formerly of Glassport, Pa; His son Shawn Matik and wife Christy Ridgley-Matik of Furlong, Pa; brother, Kenneth Matik and wife Phyllis Matik of South Carolina; nieces and nephews; and brother and sisters-in-law.
Tom graduated from McKeesport Senior High School, McKeesport, PA. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from California State College.
Serving our country in the United States Army, Tom was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam war. He received the National Defense Service medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, and earned badges as a sharpshooter and grenade expert.
Tom attended Temple University where he received a second bachelor's degree in horticulture. He owned and operated his own landscaping company.
His passion was in the creative arts. He loved to cook – everyday he would prepare and present a menu to his wife for choosing. He also had a love for animals, in which he had many during his time, none so beloved as his Australian Shepherd, Sasha. His hobbies included fishing, crabbing, and photography with a special love for plants. He loved classic rock music and smooth jazz. He had a love for the outdoors. He had a passion for, and was very knowledgeable about the history of the Civil War.
We were blessed to have Tom in our lives and he will forever be in our hearts.
Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Tom's memory can be made directly to his loving wife, Angela Matik. Please contact the funeral home for details.
