Obituary

W. Paul DeMott, age 71, of Levittown, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.

Born and raised in Hunterdon County, NJ to the late William and Genevieve (Philhower) DeMott, he graduated from North Hunterdon High School. Paul graduated from the County College of Morris with a degree in business administration. He met the love of his life, Barbara, while working at McDonalds in Flemington, NJ. They were inseparable and followed each other to various positions including AT&T and the Flemington Racetrack concessions stand. On March 13, 1976 Paul and Barbara married. In 1980 they decided to start a new venture, opening a fried-chicken restaurant, Chicken on the Run.

Paul eventually started working as a Facilities Director at the High Bridge school system and then went on to became the Operations Director for the North Hunterdon - Voorhees Regional High School District. Students would say he was an unsung hero, a kind soul who was always there to help. As Operations Director he would never shy away from work. It was not uncommon to see Paul pushing a broom with his crew and then direct the construction of the new gymnasium. His impact on those communities is still felt today. Paul also started the Hunderdon chapter of the New Jersey School Buildings and Grounds Association.

Paul enjoyed traveling to visit family and cruising with his friends. Paul and Barb had many adventures and loved visiting tropical locations. He was never one to take it easy. He retired from the North Hunterdon - Voorhees Regional High School District and began working part time at Alternatives in Raritan, New Jersey. Finally, in a well deserved full retirement, Paul began researching the genealogy of his family.

As a young man Paul was very involved in the Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle award in Pack 200.  As Cub Master, he led Pack 149 on many camping trips and service projects. Later, Paul participated in many theater groups including Show Kids Invitational Theater (SKIT), Oldwick Community Players (OCP), and North Hunterdon and Voorhees High Schools productions. He was involved in all aspects of theater including, onstage, backstage, set creation, concession stand, and with technical support. Paul was known for his strong bass voice. He always enjoyed singing, from "Dulcinea" on stage to the Beach Boys' "Barbara Anne" at home to his wife.

Over the years Paul has also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, listening to old radio shows, and music, but most of all  he loved being with his grandchildren. Lovingly known as Pop Pop to his 4 grandchildren, Paul was always ready with a quick joke and a hug for those in need. He was known for horrible 'dad' jokes and loved to laugh.

Brother of the late Janet Hoffman, he is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara (Bass) DeMott; his beloved children, Marcus (Allie) DeMott, Renee (Kristian) Stokes; cherished grandsons, Wyatt, Zephyr, Rhys and favorite granddaughter, (Princess) Vivian; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins to cherish Paul's memories.

As a lifelong animal lover, we ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Harmony Rescue Inc. (https://harmonyrr.com/support-parent-page/donate). Paul's close family and friends will be having a small memorial service on Friday, March 22, 2024. Please contact a family member for details.
