Obituary of William Cochrane

William Hunter Cochrane, Sr. of Huntingdon Valley, died peacefully on May 27, 2010, at the age of 97. Husband of the late Mildred Landy, his wife of 32 years. Father of William H. Cochran, Jr., Janet E. Harm and John M. Cochrane, Sr. He was preceded in death by son Roderick, daughter Margaret, grandson William H. Cochrane, III and sister Marjorie McPherson. He is survived by sisters Marget Smith and Elizabeth Higgins; eight grandchildren Heather Grabenstein, Janet Lutter,Susan Matlusky, Michael Cochrane, Jennifer Shaffer, John Cochrane, Lisa Harm, Matthew Cochrane; and, 13 great grandchildren Grace Crabenstein, Allyson Lutter, Jordan Maddocks, Susan Grabenstein, Thomas Lutter, Molly Matlusky, Meredith Lutter, Margo Matlusky, Jessica Cochrane, Ava Reese, Elizabeth Shaffer, Casey Cochrane and Emma Shaffer.

Born on September 7, 1912, in Johnstone, Scotland, William came to the United States at age 12 on June 28, 1925. He spent his childhood in Yonkers, New York and lived there until 1954 when he moved to Huntingdon Valley. Blessed with a sharp mind and exceptional health he worked as a successful business executive and in 1977 helped establish Valley Floor coverings, a business owned and operated by his son William and son-in-law Thomas F. Harm.

William valued family above all things, and spent his life surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, by whom he will be sorely missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral viewing from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053. Interment is private. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
