William L. Girvin Jr., better known as Bill, 94, resident of Ann's Choice in Warminster, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday September 17th, 2016 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Staten Island, NY on May 6th, 1922, Bill was a devoted Husband and Father to his 6 children. He worked as a Sandy Hook Harbor Pilot from when he was first called in 1942 to 1986, an astounding 44 years of service. After 14 years of apprenticeship he would become a full-fledged Pilot, guiding ships through the New York and New Jersey waterways. He also kept his country safe in the U.S, Coast Guard during WWII. In 1986 he retired from the Pilots and settled down in Holland Twp., NJ., eventually moving into Ann's Choice with his predeceased wife, Alice M. Daly Girvin. Bill had his priorities in order, God, Husband, Father then work. A true man of his word, he was a powerful example for those who knew him, a life honestly lived.
Son of Late William L. Girvin Sr. and Grace DeMatteo Girvin, predeceased by his lifelong love and wife of 66 years, Alice M Daly Girvin, his two sons, William L. Girvin III of Bon Air, VA and Michael J. Girvin of Wilson, PA, his four daughters, Mary A. Girvin of Forks Twp, PA, Claire M. Guggenheim of Surf City, NJ, Grace A. Wummer of Haverford, PA, Helen C. Miller of Doylestown, PA, seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his older sister Grace Robertson and survived by his younger sister Joan Lenardon.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 23 from 10:00am -11:00am immediately followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am at St. Mary R.C. Church, 830 5th Ave., Alpha, NJ 08865. Entombment will be private at St. Mary Mausoleum. A reception will follow the mass at The Almond Tree Manor, 319 Central Ave., Alpha, NJ 08865.
